Robredo Plane Crash Not The First For Aviatour

Well, to start with my new blog, coming from a very long vacation...if I could call that a vacation...I want to talk about the recent plane crash that killed Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary, Jesse Robredo and 2 pilots.

I read a report in abs-cbnnews.com saying that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) will soon start the investigation into the plane crash as soon as all the bodies and the plane wreckage have been retrieve.

According to CAAP Director General William Hotchkiss, all aircraft owned by the operator of the ill-fated Piper Seneca plane have been grounded pending the investigation.

Hotchkiss also added that it is not the first time that Aviatour Air got involved in an accident that resulted in deaths because last March, a Cessna plane owned by Aviatour's flying school crashed in Mambajao, Camiguin, killing the pilot and one of the Norwegian passengers.

As a result, CAAP suspended the flying school's permit to operate, however, the Aviator Air has a separate permit to operate air taxis which apparently last Saturday, Robredo decided to fly using one of Aviatour's air taxi, a Piper Seneca plane.

Hotchkiss said that upon checking with the Mactan International Airport, they received confirmation that proper inspection was conducted by the pilot, Capt. Jessup Bahinting prior to their departure.

Bahinting is the pilot of the ill-fated Piper Seneca who is also the owner and chief pilot of Aviatour Air. Bahinting's and Nepalese co-pilot Kshitiz Chand body have not been retrieve yet.
