Philippine Dragon Boat Team cash reward from House of Representatives

The Philippine Dragon Boat team "Dragon Warriors" will receive P1.4 million cash reward from members of the House of Representatives.

The triumphant Philippine dragon boat team who won 5 gold medals and 2 silvers from the recent International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships in Tampa Bay, Florida will finally receive financial support.

In a privilege speech, Rep. Rodolfo Albano (1st District, Isabela) urged his colleagues to contribute P5,000 each for the 20-member Philippine Dragon Boat team. He said the contribution will be pledged to finance the team’s continued training and development.

The motion was endorsed by Rep. Amado Bagatsing (5th District, Manila). It was eventually approved by the 285-member body. Albano said many Filipinos were saddened after realizing the numerous hardships of the Philippine dragon boat team members.

The P5,000 cash grant will be deducted from the monthly salaries of the 285 congressmen.

The Philippine Dragon Boat team is heading back to the country after their dominant performance in the World Dragon Boat Championships in Florida.

The Filipino paddlers said they were inspired by the local Filipinos in Florida who supported them in their races and provided them with food and drinks throughout the duration of the competition.
