Moammar Gaddafi flee his headquaters Bab al-Aziziya

Reports say that Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi was forced to abandon his Tripoli stronghold on Wednesday.

Muammar Gaddafi vowed to fight on to death or victory after the anti-Gaddafi rebels successfully forced the 42-year-old ruler of Libya to flee his military barracks and compound, Bab al-Aziziya.

The Libyan rebels ransacked Bab al-Aziziya, seizing more weapons and destroying any government symbols.

The Bab al-Aziziya is situated in the southern suburbs of Tripoli and was the main base of Muammar Gaddafi until it was captured by the anti-Gaddafi rebels on August 23.

Meanwhile, Gaddafi said that his withdrawal from Bab al-Aziziya was only a tactical move after his headquarters was hit by 64 NATO air strikes.

The Libyan leader vowed "martyrdom" or victory in his fight against the alliance, thus urging his followers to cleanse the streets of "traitors."

Until now the Libyan leader's whereabouts after fleeing Bab al-Aziziya compound remains a mystery.
