Smart Gilas Pilipinas defeated vs South Korea

The Philippine national basketball team, Smart Gilas Pilipinas suffered their second lost vs South Korea.

In the 2011 William Jones Cup baketball tournament being held at the Hsinchuang Stadium in New Taipei City, the Nationals were defeated by the undefeated national basketball team of South Korea, 78-70.

On Wednesday, August 10 the Smart Gilas Pilipinas had a hard time keeping up with the 3-point shooters of South Korea even if JV Casio exploded for the Nationals in the 3rd quarter, scoring 15 points in the period tying the game at 56.

The Smart Gilas was able to keep in step with Korea up until the 4th quarter. Asi Taulava and Chris Lutz also contributed, with Lutz's transition basket tying the game at 63 for the Philippine team.

But, the Koreans then went on a 10-0 blast that gave them control of the ball game. Casio with Mac Baracael attempted a comeback, with the 2 players conspiring for a 7-1 run that brought Gilas to within 4, 74-70.

However, the Koreans scored on a slam dunk on its ensuing possession, giving them another 6-point lead.

The Filipinos had one last chance to make a rally, but Casio's 3-point attempt hit the back iron, and Marcus Douthit committed a turnover after the offensive rebound.

The national team now has 3 wins against 2 losses in the tournament. South Korea remained undefeated with a 5-0 slate.
